This Vin De Pays d'Oc wine from Eric Comte's company, Pret A Boire (ready to drink), comes in an odd plastic bag (called Doypack apparently) which creates less CO2 to manufacture than bottles, cans and even tetrapaks, and is also fully recyclable. Good work fellas!

However I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about the wine inside the pack, and wondered if it was just a gimmick.

Well, this merlot has a mellow nose with some earthy notes and some fruits (of course).

On the palate it's smooth and dry with some tannins and mellow fruits.

Surpisingly drinkable actually. Pretty good for what it is (essentially a table wine in a plastic bag) and very handy for picnics, etc.

Definitely one of the better "portable" wines I've tried.

For more information about their packaging, you can visit their website at http://www.pretaboire.com/, although to be honest I found it difficult to use and the drop down menus are tricky to click, still worth a look if you're interested.
