t has a cool label design with coiled eels (or anacondas?) on, but apparently it has nothing to do with the name of the wine or anything, the winemaker just liked the design someone made for him.
The wine is 100% Petite Sirah which is an unusual grape variety and is a cross of Syrah with the Peloursin plant.
This wine is dark, practically black in the glass with just the dark red showing around the edge of the glass as the wine surface curves up the glass at the sides.
Big, bold and fruity on the nose with dark fruits, noticeably plum.
Also some spice in there.
On the palate this is a big wine! Heavy, but perfectly balanced.
The dark fruits and plum come through on the palate along with the spiciness.
Dry and tannic but it doesn't strip your teeth (too much!).
A nice long, deep finish that is very satisfying.
I'd been drinking mainly beer during the hot Japanese summer and this was my first "real" red wine for months (I tasted it back in October).
Man, it showed me what I'd been missing!
Got to get back into my wines, especially if there gonna be as good as this!
It's available from AWines and I highly recommend you give it a try.
