This wine is from the Cotes De Thongue region of Languedoc and it's another wine I knew nothing about and bought it purely because of the cool label and name.

My French isn't very good, but I'm hoping this is 'The Ballad of the Lizards' in English.

There was a lot of alcohol and warmth on the nose, not surprising as it's 14%. The colour was a deep claret.

In the mouth it was sharp and acidic, not fizzy but almost stinging. Probably the high alcohol? I didn't get any distinct flavours, just the alcohol.

This may have been as the wine was served too warm, we were entering the Japanese summer when I drank this, so the room temperature was about 25deg C.

After the initial taste, I put it in the fridge for a few minutes to cool a little. The alcohol was still overpowering but it had a nicer taste.
According to the label there was supposed to be orange peel and cherry, but I couldn't pick those up.

This wine had a long finish.

The winery actually has an excellent website http://www.domainemontrose.com/ which is worth checking out.
