Apparently in 1934 Baronne Philippe de Rothschild acquired this estate area and it was called Chateau Mouton Baron de Rothschild and then Baronne Phillipe de Rothschild until finally becoming Chateau d'Armailhac in 1989.

History lesson over, what's the wine like.

Well it's a deep red, purple colour with strong blackcurrants and plums on the nose with a cassis, cherry flavoured complex taste.

It's quite acidic with a long finish with some oranges and citrus fruits on the finish.

Actually tastes expensive (bearing in mind most of the wines I drink are cheap $6-$20), I might not be able to tell if a wine is good but I can tell when it tastes expensive.

This is quite a complex wine, feels like there's a lot of depth to the flavours but my palate isn't good enough (at the moment) to pick them out. Still training it!

My wife and I actually bought this about a year before opening it and left it for a special occasion (it was about 3 times the price of our usual wine purchases) and we weren't disappointed.
