Sileni Estates, according to their website, are a major vineyard and winery in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. They had their first vintage in 1998 and have won many awards, including Gold Awards at Japan Wine Challenge, London IWSC, Hong Kong Wine Challenge and London Wine Challenge.
Quite impressive.

They also practice sustainable wine growing practices (which I couldn't find much detail about on their site or the NZ winegrowers website http://www.nzwine.com/swnz/ - lots of talk about frameworks and audits, but I'm sure it's all good for the environment, etc. so more power to them).

As for this wine itself, first off, it's a screw cap as a lot of wines from New Zealand and Australia seem to be these days.

It had a subtle merlot kind of smell with plums and blueberrys, etc.

On the palate it was smooth and not acidic. Well balanced, medium bodied with a short finish.

There was plums and berrys on the taste but not overly strong which was nice.

It was great value, around ¥1000 ($10) I think, so a good choice when you want to have a quality, everyday wine.
