Pionero Carmenere 2008

Pionero Carmenere 2008

Winery : Morande
Grape : Carmenere
Region : Chile > Maipo Valley
Alcohol : 14%   Red wine
Price :
Score : 82 by MoIppai (22/02/2010)

Another cheap wine from Morande in Chile. I've found out recently this is their "cheap" range, - I don't mean that in a bad way, as it's a pretty good wine - they have a more expensive "Reserve" range, which I tasted once and was very impressed. Haven't bought one of those yet though.

Anyway, this Carmenere variety wine is 14% alcohol and you immediately get hit with the hot alcohol on the nose. You can really feel the alcohol coming off this wine.
A big aroma with dark fruits and berries.

Smooth on the palatte with a deep flavour. Dark fruits and berries again.

Medium bodied but feels heavier due to the full, big flavours.

Has a long, pleasant finish which slowly fades away leaving a much more pleasant aftertaste (more enjoyable than the big alcohol hit at the beginning).

A medium dry red wine that's pretty cheap at ¥900 ($9). Good for everyday drinking - although watch the high alcohol content.
