Jack Daniels isn't actually a bourbon it's a Tennessee Whiskey apparently, but technically Tennessee Whiskeys are classed as bourbons (according to Wikipedia - so that may or may not be true!).Location : USA > Tennessee

Anyway, Jack Daniel's must be one of the most famous American whiskeys, closely associated with Rock'n'Roll it seems. I can't remember a picture of Slash out of Guns'n'Roses when he wasn't gripping a bottle of Jack. The bottle shape, the cool black label, it all screams Rock'n'Roll!
It's an orangey, amber colour in the glass with a nose of charcoal and vanilla (the whiskey is mellowed by dripping through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal).
On the palate, there's a sweetness to it, with some wood and charcoal there and some vanilla.
The whiskey has a smoothness and richness to it that's almost syrupy or oily.
I never used to be a fan of Jack Daniels, my brother used to drink it a lot, but I couldn't get into it. I guess my tastes have changed/matured and although I would still go for a Makers Mark or a Crown Royal given the choice, this is certainly a drinkable whiskey and worth giving a go.
