One of the 47 Cup Sake's I bought, one from each prefecture in Japan, and I particularly like this can as it has a nice illustration of traditional Japanese sake brewing, a lot of the cans, or jars are quite plain, sometimes with nothing but the name on them. This one stands out a bit.

The brewery has been making sake in Kyoto since 1673 and was founded by Rokuzaemon Nakaya (probably a not very useful piece of information, but I was reading their website which has a very good English section, so I thought I would share some of the knowledge).

The sake itself has a light, sake nose. A sake nose is difficult to describe, but kinda like a mixture of alcohol and rice I guess.

On the palate, initially there's a hit of the alcohol, which tingles the tip of the tongue, but it's a smooth sake, not acidic or sharp.

All the taste seems to be centred near the front of the tongue, with nothing on the throat.

As it disappears down the throat you're left with a warm feeling of alcohol and a slight dryness. According to their website, their sake goes very well with food, especially sushi and sashimi, and I can believe it, as it has a nice silky smoothness in the mouth but without any overbearing flavours.

I like this one.

The other sakes from the 47 sake collection are detailed in my blog post, here.
