Wow, this was a weird one. It was one of the 47 sake I got, one from each prefecture in Japan, and this one had a piece of blowfish (fugu) fin sitting at the bottom of the glass! Seriously. (I don't know how well you can see it in the photo, but it's there).

Apparently it's quite a well known thing, and (unsurprisingly) this kind of sake goes very well with Fugu.

I had trouble reading the kanji on the label so this is either Fuguhire sake (blowfish fin sake), which is kind of the generic name for this type of sake or Fukunotsuke (which I don't know what it means, but it could be this brand).

The ingredients state that this sake is made with rice and blowfish fin (which as I mentioned before, is floating around the bottom of the glass).

So what's it like?
Well, unsurprisingly, it's fishy on the nose with a real hint of the sea.

It's not a clear sake, as it has tiny bits of fish floating around in it (and the one large bit I keep mentioning).

To be honest, I really didn't want to taste this, the fishy smell was putting me off! (I love fish, especially sushi and English fish and chips, although haven't tried fugu yet, but this was just too strong a fishy smell, and it's kind of put me off trying fugu now).

On the palate, it tasted like sake made with fish! i.e. a fishy watery taste.

I was definitely not a fan of this, in fact, I'm afraid to say I threw it away after one or two sips!

I guess people who like fugu would love this, but it's just not for me.
