href="http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/newsroom/japan-earthquake-tsunami-help-20110311-084815-717.html">disaster struck Fukushima</a> is slowly getting back on it&#8217;s feet with recent news that the <a
href="http://nonjatta.blogspot.com/2011/04/distilleries-reopen-for-visitors.html">Miyagikyo Distillery</a> in Sendai reopened it&#8217;s distillery tours, which were suspended after the quake, and <a
href="http://mdn.mainichi.jp/">newspapers</a> yesterday reporting that <strong>Asahi Breweries</strong> will be resuming it&#8217;s shipments of beer from it&#8217;s brewery in Motomiya, Fukushima Prefecture by the end of June.</p><p>Brewing starts this month with canning, etc. from next.</p><p>The brewery is 57km from the Fukushima No.1 nuclear plant and radiation detectors will be used at the brewery for product safety.</p><p>Good news all round, and hopefully smaller businesses will also be able to get back to normal soon too.</p><div

href="http://www.mutineermagazine.com/blog/" target="_blank">Mutineer Magazine</a> blog, I&#8217;ve yet to see it on Japanese TV. Maybe I&#8217;m not watching enough NHK variety shows! (Thankfully I don&#8217;t watch any!).</p><p>It&#8217;s a phenomenal live action/cgi trip through Japanese brewing history and mythology (I guess!) &#8211; including sumo wrestlers, geisha taiko drumming and dragons &#8211; and is just quite beautiful to watch.</p><p>Makes a change from the usual J-pop stars and variety &#8220;talent&#8221; chugging beer and saying &#8220;Umai!&#8221;.</p><div

/> <b>Hokkaido</b>, for those that don&#8217;t know, is the northern most of the 4 main Japan islands, where <a
href="http://www.moippai.com/beer-reviews/search-brewery-Sapporo-5.html">Sapporo Beer</a> is from (Sapporo city is kind of the capital of Hokkaido). I haven&#8217;t visited there yet, but it&#8217;s famous for it&#8217;s snow, beautiful scenery, nature and sushi.<br
/> <br/>My wife picked up two of the craft beers for me the other day, the <a
href="http://www.moippai.com/beer-reviews/Yubari-Coal-Mine-Black-Beer--%E5%A4%95%E5%BC%B5%E7%9F%B3%E7%82%AD%E3%83%93%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB-137.html">Yubari Coal Mine Black Beer</a> and the bizarre <a
href="http://www.moippai.com/beer-reviews/Ryuhyou-Draft-%28%E6%B5%81%E6%B0%B7Draft%29-Okhotsk-Blue-136.html">Ryuhyou Draft Okhotsk Blue</a> which is a BLUE happoshu from <a
href="http://www.takahasi.co.jp/beer/lineup/ryuhyo.html" target="_blank">Abashiri Brewery</a>.<br
/> <br/>Ryuhyou　in Japanese is <b>流氷</b> which means <b>Drift Ice</b>, and to be honest I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s made with drift ice water or it&#8217;s just some marketing thing.<br
/> <br/>Unfortunately, despite the colour, it&#8217;s just a disappointing happoshu with a fairly chemical taste. Full marks for trying though. Click the image below for a full review.<br
