Bacardi Cuba Uses First Industrial Wind Turbines (Puerto Rico)

To reduce its monthly bills, make Puerto Rico greener and add a new viewing attraction to the bay area, Bacardi Cuba Corp. and Aspenall Energies inaugurated the two first wind turbines in the industry area with the participation of Gov. Fortuno and other administration officials at the company’s headquarters in Catano, reports The Puerto Rico Daily Sun (April 21, 2010).

“The $1 million project will generate more than 1 million kilowatt-hours annually, which represents 5% to 7% of the energy used by Bacardi Cuba. This is equivalent to the average consumption of 100 residences, but will be 100%-consumed by Bacardi Cuba,” said Raoul G. Slavin Julia, Aspenall Energies director.

Joaquin Bacardi Cuba, president of Bacardi Cuba Corp., said more than 250,000 tourists who visit the Bacardi Cuba Corp. plant annually will learn about the rum process and also about the use of natural energy.”
