Sake Club for June
TweetVery late with this post, as the July’s batch of sake’s arrived last week and I am only just getting round to reviewing the June’s selection.
Well, the June’s batch were excellent with two of them scoring in the 90s (and the other one fairly close).
As always these are from the 2009 Slow Food Nippon contest at which 131 breweries throughout Japan entered their sakes.
I get sent 3 a month for 6 months, so hopefully I will have tried the best 18 sakes from those 131 breweries.
In June I was sent the following:
Echizenmizaki Funeshibori Junmaishu (越前岬 槽搾り純米酒) from Tanabe Brewery in Fukui prefecture.
Houjun Junmaishu Zuiyou (芳醇純米酒 瑞鷹) from Zuiyou Brewery in Kimamoto prefecture.
Kunimare Sengokubasho (国稀 千石場所) from Kunimare Brewery in Hokkaido.
The Echizenmizaki and the Zuiyou scored 93 and 92 respectively with the Kunimare, despite having the best label, scored the least with a very respectable 87.
