Yamanashi Winery, Katsunuma Japan
TweetOne of the last wineries we visited in Katsunuma was the small buy very friendly
Yamanshi Winery.
There are several reasons I would recommend seeking out this winery, the first being the marvellous old building the reception and tasting room is housed in and the very impressive tree growing outside it.
Inside is a small tasting area and attached to this is another small room containing old artifacts and objects related to wine and wine making.
The guy in charge on the day took us to the next building and showed us around their small but impressively old cellar.
We were the only people visiting at that time so we were able to take our time and ask lots of questions. He was very helpful and a good guide.
The cellar was mainly full of customer bought wines that are stored for them here.
Many of the customers are restaurants in the local area.
We later visited one of these restaurants purely because it’s wine was cellared here.
After the short tour we were taken back to the tasting room and started on the wine, which was on the whole excellent.
The white wines and the sweet roses were particularly good and we picked up a couple to take home.
The winery is not too far from the Mercian and Soryu wineries and it’s a pleasant walk through a quiet Japanese town, which is nearly always a pleasure.
