Yamanashi Wine Jelly
TweetI found an oddity in our local supermarket, not long after coming back from our tour of wineries in Yamanashi prefecture, Koshu Wine Jelly.
This is Jelly in the British English sense (as in the dessert – Jello in American I believe), not the stuff you put on toast.
The box has 6 pots, 3 red and 3 white.
The red wine jelly is made from Yamanashi Prefecture Muscat Bailey A wine and the white from Koshu wine (the only wine grape native to Japan).
The main ingredient according to the packaging is grapes and the second is wine, although the box has no alcohol content or age limit warning, so perhaps the alcohol is removed during the jelly making process.
Anyway they tasted alright, although I don’t actually like Muscat Bailey A wine much anyway
so I preferred the white Koshu grape jelly.
Worth a try, mainly for the novelty though.
Some Yamanashi Prefecture Wines:
Chateau Soryu 2003
Chateau Mercian Nagano Merlot 1999
Domaine Chateraise Kai Noir Oak Bouquet 2006
