Free Sake in Osaka
I’m always a big fan of free booze and walking through Umeda station in Osaka, Japan the other day (well, the other month really, been a bit slack with posting this), I was greeted with this…
I know it’s not a great picture (taken with my camera phone), but essentially it’s crowds of people queueing up for free promotional sake from Kikumasamune Sake Brewery (a local brewery from Kobe).
We toured their brewery a while ago (Click the above link to see the post).
They were giving this sake out, a new sake called “Kikumasamune Kimoto Karaguchi“.
It’s 15% alcohol, with rice polished down to 70% and has a sake density of +5 (basically means it’s pretty dry, “Karaguchi” in Japanese means “dry” ).
I was meeting my wife up in Umeda for dinner, and she’d queued up earlier to get me a bottle, so when we met up, we queued up again and got another couple of bottles.
A bit cheeky I know but I’ve bought a lot of sake from this company before so I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.
I haven’t reviewed this sake yet, but I have written up one of their others, 正宗 (Masamune) which was very drinkable, especially when warmed.
Updated (6th July 2010) :
Finally got around to writing up the review for this sake! It can be found here…
Kiku Masamune Shinkarakuchi (菊正宗 しんから口)
