Chocolate Beer for Valentines Day?
It’s Valentines Day soon, and in Japan they do Valentines Day a little different to the West (let’s face it, in Japan they do a lot of things different to the west!).
Here it’s kind of reversed.
Instead of boyfriends, husbands, etc buying flowers, jewellery or lingerie for their respective partners, in Japan it’s the girls job to make or buy chocolates to give to the man in their life (or just the men at work in some cases).
Chocolat Brewery
It’s perhaps because of this, or just very good timing, that Sapporo brewery has teamed up with Hokkaido based chocolate company, “Royce” for a creation called “Chocolate Brewery“.
It’s an Happoshu (low malt beer) made from roasted malt and cacao, it has “the characteristic of aromatic chocolate flavour and bitter taste“.
I have to say it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, it looks like a big class of coke on pouring due to it’s dark black/brown colour and creamy head, and the odd bitter chocolatey aftertaste does bring you back for more.
Although by the end of the glass, I’d had enough!
Nice to try, but won’t buy again I think.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, on March 14th “White Day“, the boys buy the girls presents or white chocolate in return. So everyone’s happy in the end.
