My Wine Tastes of Bugs!
TweetA while ago I bought a book (or rather a Mook – a magazine/book) about wine here in Japan, called the “Basic Wine Book” – ワイン基本ブック which is, as the title suggests a beginners guide to wine. And pretty useful it is too.
It has sections on the major wine regions in the world, and discussions about the main grapes.
It also has a very useful photo section with images of all the different tastes you might find in a particular varietal wine…here is the Shiraz/Syrah page…
Two things crossed my mind at this point…
a) Shiraz might smell/taste like bugs?? um, no thanks.
b) How does anyone know what a bug smells/tastes like??
In answer to the second one, apparently a lot of Japanese people do.
These kind of bugs are common here and it’s not unusual for young boys to collect them…nice.

Oh seriously? never tried that before. All we drink is that fine smooth taste from fruits. Its okay to try exotic tastes from other parts of the world ones in a while
