Japan Beer Sales Down But Kirin On Top

Kirin Lager Beer

Kirin Lager Beer

Beer sales in Japan have dropped this year apparently due to an unseasonably cool summer…um, was that the really hot, humid summer I just lived through? Unseasonably cool huh?

Kirin won out amongst the big 4 market leaders but only by .6% to Asahi (Super Dry didn’t sell well this year).

Suntory Holdings Ltd came third followed by Sapporo Breweries.

As I blogged about previously, other category beers like Happoshu and the Third Category have increased in sales due to the recession.

In fact, Third Category beer has nearly 30% of the market share, with regular beer dropping just below 50% for the first time ever!

Personally I can vouch that as being true as at home I only really drink the third category beers these days with my current favourite being Mugisugiri
