Nonalcoholic Beer From Suntory

I read in Kyodo News yesterday that Suntory are planning a “nonalcoholic beerlike drink” (i.e. happoshu) to be released at the end of September to compete with Kirin’s Kirin Free and the soon to be released Asahi Point Zero.

The drink will contain no alcohol but they claim it will have the

brisk flavour of beer

because it contains 1.3 times more malt. It’s gonna cost ¥140 and I’ll be reviewing it (and the Asahi Point Zero) when it comes out.

  1. Haven’t had a nonalcoholic beer yet that was any good.
When some brewery comes up with a good tasting nonalcoholic brew they will make a fortune. Unfortunately that will not fare well with their alcoholic beer sales. For that reason the first great nonalcoholic will probably be produced by an independent distillery that does not market an alcoholic brew.
