Last year, I had my annual (compulsory in Japan) health check up, and discovered that a) I was fatter than I should have been…I kinda knew that, and b) My purine level was too high.
I didn’t even know I had a purine level, but apparently it’s a huge component of beer. Doh!
So, I cut down on my beer (and even started drinking a 90% Purine free beer that Kirin make here in Japan – but tastes nothing like beer so didn’t stick with that for very long), and switched to wine.
Figured this would reduce my calorie consumption too.
Well, I just found this blog post from at Why Wine Blog and was surprised to find the calorie difference between beer and wine is not quite as drastic as I was hoping.
They’ve posted a very useful table.
