This Abbey beer is actually brewed by the Nobertine monks of Tongerlo Abbey with the help of Haacht Brewery. The abbey had been brewing their beer since the 12th Century apparently, but this came to an end during World War I. Haacht Brewery helped them start up again in 1989, and they currently brew 4 types of Abbey Beer.Location : Belgium > Boortmeerbeek

The Prior 9 is a "vigorous beer, refermentated within the bottle", according to their website.
So lets give it a go...
Well it certainly is vigorous! Extremely fizzy (with tiny, champagne like bubbles) and a huge head.
Fresh and fruity on the nose with a subtle aroma of apple pie.
On the palate, it's light with a full, soft mouth feel (the bubble give it a fresh, refreshing feel). It has a fresh, hoppy flavour to it, not too strong though, nicely balanced.
A little bitter on the finish, and there's the subtle apple pie taste (or more of a feeling) on the aftertaste.
My only criticism, although it isn't really a criticism, more of a comment, is that it's so vigorous and gassy, not sure how many of these I could drink in a session. Mind you, at 9%, one is probably enough!
A very good, interesting Abbey Ale.
