An excellent, classic British ale from Britains oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame, which has been around since 1698!

This ale from Faversham, Kent in the south-east of England is called "Spitfire - The Bottle of Britain" and was originally brewed in 1990 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain which took place in the skies over Kent (with the British flying the world famous Spitfire plane).

The beer is dark amber in colour with an off-white creamy head.

There was some toffee on the nose and that classic British ale smell (which I miss, living in Japan).

Hoppy on the palatte and almost creamily, full bodied in the mouth - not as much as a stout of course but slightly "thick" in the mouth.

It's bitter and very drinkable with a long aftertaste.

Highly recommended.
