SanktGallen Brown Porter

SanktGallen Brown Porter

Brewery : SanktGallen Brewery
Location : Japan > Kanagawa
Beer Type : Porter
Alcohol : 5.5% Abv
Score: 89 by MoIppai (15/04/2011)

For Christmas this year my wife bought me a box set of SanktGallen Beers to try.

Despite the German sounding name, SanktGallen Brewery is based in Kanagawa, Japan and has been brewing beers since March 1993 (according to the bottle label).

The first of the set of beers I tried was this, Brown Porter.

It's a dark caramel brown/black colour in the glass with a browny, yellow frothy head.

Sweet, dark caramel malty notes on the nose and it has a dirty feeling nose to it, but I mean that in a good way (if that makes sense).

A full mouth feel with dark roasted malts on the palate.
Quite a mellow flavour, not overpowering/

I left it to "breathe" for a while and chocolatey flavours came through. Very nice.

Overall a good, mellow, dark beer (with some chocolate flavours if left for a while).

Their website (only in Japanese unfortunately) can be found here: SanktGallen Brewery
