Liberty Ale

Liberty Ale

Brewery : Anchor Brewing Company
Location : USA > San Francisco
Beer Type : Ale
Alcohol : 6% Abv
Score: 89 by MoIppai (18/02/2011)

Anchor Brewing use a top-fermenting ale yeast when making this ale and it's lightly carbonated, using a technique called "bunging", which apparently produces champagne like bubbles, and the bubbles definitely were pretty light and small.

This is a light, dirty golden brown coloured ale, with a floral bouquet nose, like violets or something. It's also pretty clean and fresh.

On the palate it's also clean and fresh, in fact the clean-ness is almost soap like.
There's also a sour, bitter grapefruit hint to it too. In fact this grapefruit sourness seemed to get stronger as the glass emptied.

There's a bitter aftertaste, not too strong, and it's also fairly dry.

Overall this is a floral, slightly sour, bitter, clean fresh ale.
