This is a Flemish Red Ale from Brouwerij Verhaeghe in Beligum (Brouwerij is Brewery in Belgian).

It's a dark toffee brown colour in the glass with a big yellowy frothy head.

I got, bizarrely, tomato ketchup on the nose, with some hints of cola or something.

On the palate, an odd fruity taste, but what fruit is it? I think it's like a chemical banana flavour (like the fake banana taste in sweet, milkshakes, etc), but this isn't definitely not a chemical tasting beer.

There's almost a bit of ketchup in the flavour too, like a hint dried tomato ketchup. In fact, it's almost more vegetable than fruit. This is a complex ale!

It has a slightly thick, viscous feel in the mouth and it's a little sweet.

Is that a hint of cola on the aftertaste too?

This is unlike any other beer I've tried in a long time, if ever, very unusual, and it grew on me!

I don't know if it's only just reached the Japanese market, but I bought this bottle about a month ago, first time I'd seen it, and now I keep seeing it everywhere.
