Anchor Steam Beer

Anchor Steam Beer

Brewery : Anchor Brewing Company
Location : USA > San Francisco
Beer Type : Beer
Alcohol : 4.9% Abv
Score: 90 by MoIppai (15/05/2011)

According to the Anchor Brewing Company's excellent website (http://www.anchorbrewing.com)

"Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. "

So now you know.

This is a toffee coloured beer with a small white head.
It has a light, malty nose and on the palate it's bitter with smoe caramel, dark toffee flavours.

It's quite a flavoursome beer and is medium bodied witha slightly full mouth feel.

It reminded me a lot of bitters from England, like Theakstons (I think...it's been a while), that you get on tap in proper pubs in the country.

This is a very nice bitter beer.
