So Winter has arrived in Japan, heralded by the appearance of Winter beers on the shelves of the Konbini (Convenience stores).

The Japanese name for this beer is "Kohaku no Zeitaku" which translates as "The Luxury of Amber". Which is nice.

It does have a very nice, dark golden amber colour.

On pouring you get a nice big head which disappears very quickly.
It has a more of a mellow, darker taste than Suntory's Autumn beer, the Aki Nama.

This one is quite smooth and not gassy.

Like the Aki Nama it has a short finish and is pretty light and crisp.
This is more dry and bitter than the Nama, and I think I prefer this one.
Which is handy as it's Winter (in terms of beers) so the Autumn ones will disappear from the shelves soon.

This came out again this Winter (2010) and I thought I'd try it again.
Reading the can it seems this is made with "Aromatic Hops" from Kyoto. And it has a dark roasted malt taste to it.
I scored it a bit less this year, but it is interesting for a daisan, so definitely worth trying.
