St. Sebastiaan Grand Cru

St. Sebastiaan Grand Cru

Brewery : Sterkens
Location : Belgium > Meer
Beer Type : Ale
Alcohol : 7.6% Abv
Score: 85 by MoIppai (30/01/2010)

This is a light golden translucent lager (or technically a Pale Ale I believe) with a white foamy head.

It has a subtle hoppy smell, and is medium bodied and quite soft in the mouth. Like a cushion or something, quite pleasant.

It has an unusual taste, some hops and like a white chocolatey hint.

Fairly subtle aftertaste, just enough to keep you guessing and wanting to go back for more to try and pinpoint the unusual taste.

Also, slightly bitter and a little dry.

I'm not usually a big fan of hoppy Belgium beers (Sterkens other beer I've tried the St. Paul Blond, only scored 50 from me - although that was a white beer), but this one is pretty good.
Which is fortunate as it comes in a (very cool looking) 500ml clay(?) bottle.

Although the bottle does have a built in stopper, like a Grolsch, if want to save it for later. I didn't.

Pretty good although a bit expensive in Japan, at ¥999 ($10) a bottle.
