Orion Southern Star

This Orion daisan is actually released through Asahi in mainland Japan, so not sure if it's made in the Asahi breweries or it's actually imported from Okinawa (probably made in the Asahi brewery to be honest).

Anyway it's a third-category drink (not a real beer) and has an unusual alcohol % of 4.5%-5.5%. Guess they couldn't work out the actual value.

According to the can, "Orion Southern Star is a liqueur with a refreshingly light taste delicately flavoured with hops".

I love that bit about being "delicately flavoured", is that marketing speak for we put some hops near it but not acually in the drink?

So, Orion Southern Star is a light, watery golden colour with a pure white fizzy head.
It has a light, fresh nose with almost a soapy hint to it.

Taste wise it's light and nothing like a beer. The carbonated taste is overwhelming any other tastes.

It's a little dry and doesn't have so much of the usual metallic taste with daisans and happoshus, but as I said there's a strong carbonated soda water feel to it.

Not great and fairly forgettable.
