The beer is made in the Altbier style, which is a German style of Brown Ale. "Alt" meaning "Old" in German. Generally Altbiers are conditioned for longer than normal ales.
The other peculiar thing about this beer, is that it's made by a Sake Brewer. Kizakura is sake brewery based in Fushimiku in South Kyoto.
According to their website they make sake, beer and drinking water. As well as having a line of restaurants.
I haven't tried their sake, but the beer is prerry good.
It's a dark, treacley brown colour with an off-white foamy head.
It also has a subtle smell of malt.
A nice bittery, malty taste. Quite light.
Actually reminded me of bitters from England, like a Bass Pale Ale or something.
This was an excellent beer and will try to find it again (and will look out for their sakes too).
