This daisan (third-category beer like drink) was released by Kirin back in July of 2010, to try and compete with Asahi's unstoppable Super Dry.

'Karakuchi Mugi' basically translates as 'dry tasting wheat' so you can see they were going for a 'super dry' taste.

It has a fresh light nose, but a disappointing taste.
It is quite dry but unfortunately it tastes like a daisan (fake beer) and not a lager (which the Asahi Super Dry is).

Although it doesn't have the strong metallic taste that most daisans have so it isn't unpleasant in that respect.

It's not a bad drink, it just doesn't taste like a lager really. It does have some weight to it in the mouth though, a lot of daisans have a very light, carbonated water feel. This was different.

I really like the can design though, it definitely stands out in the supermarkets and convenience stores.

I'll give it a generous 85 points.
