Ginga Koken Beer was started in 1996 to help promote and revive the Sawauchi village in Iwate Prefecture, and according to their website (which has an excellent English site at http://www.gingakogenbeer.com/english/ ), this village is in an area of heavy snowfall so the water is very fresh and the climate is similar to Bayern in Germany, so ideal for a brewery.

In keeping with the German connection they use 100% German malt and mainly German hops too.

This particular beer has ingredients of wheat, barley and hops. They use 55% wheat and 45% barley. (They made a big thing of this on the side of the can, so it must be important).

So, after all that, is it any good? Yes.

The beer has a fairly aromatic hoppy smell like a white or Belgian beer.
Very (light coloured) cloudy and murky. Can't see through it at all, and it has a big white head.

On the taste it's light, fruity hoppy, smooth and subtle.

I'm not usually a big fan of this style of beer but this is really good.

Also the label on the can has a nice, slightly rough feel to it which is a little unusual.
